EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) — El Paso Community College (EPCC) held the Grand Opening of the EPCC Gallery of Fine Art, the 49th\u00a0Annual Juried Student Art Exhibition, and Artist Reception Friday, April 17, 2026, at the Transmountain campus.<\/p>\n

EPCC says the event showcases the artistic achievements of EPCC\u2019s students both within the visual arts programs and across other disciplines. The exhibition featured work created during the past year(s) by currently enrolled EPCC students at all levels from across the College District.<\/p>\n

\u201cArt not only strengthens our campuses and but also our community,\u201d EPCC President Dr. William Serrata said. \u201cStudent exhibitions, like the one we get to enjoy tonight, make campuses more vibrant and accessible. Art isn\u2019t just an academic subject\u2014it\u2019s a bridge between education and community life. The work on display tonight represents not only your talent, but your perseverance, growth, and courage.\u201d<\/p>\n

EPCC says during the event juried pieces were being awarded throughout the evening celebrating the students\u2019 artistic accomplishments.\u00a0EPCC alumnus and Senior Curator at the El Paso Museum of Art, Michael Reyes, served as juror.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur program is built on collaboration, mentorship, and a shared belief in the power of the arts,\u201d Associate Professor of Art and the Gallery of Fine Art Coordinator Zoe Spiliotis said. \u201cOne of the most exciting developments for us has been the addition of EPCC\u2019s Gallery of Fine Art. This space represents more than just a venue, it\u2019s a place where ideas come to life, where students can share their work with the community, and where art becomes a shared experience.\u201d<\/p>\n

EPCC art students, Art major Tony Chops and Graphic Design major Alex Pacheco Rimada, shared their thoughts about the event.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy artist identity is something I have struggled with my whole life, and recently I hit a creative wall, so I made one of the best decisions of my life, to come to EPCC and take art classes,\u201d Chops said. \u201cI learned one of the most important things, is that art doesn\u2019t have to be straightforward, it\u2019s about your interpretation.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cMy most favorite task at EPCC is the installation of the exhibition,\u201d Pacheco Rimada, an assistant at the Gallery, said. \u201cIt\u2019s been a lot of hard work, but I\u2019ve gained experience, made me more comfortable and confident, in this line of work of getting to know artists on a deeper level.\u201d<\/p>\n

2nd Prize Award:\u00a0Alyssa Mancilla\u00a0for\u00a0Sweet Resilience<\/p>\n

3rd Prize Award:\u00a0Tyrique Ibarra\u00a0for\u00a0Where Light Breaks Through<\/p>\n

Dean’s Award:\u00a0Rebecca Martinez\u00a0for\u00a0Aqua<\/p>\n

Taller La Espina Best Print Award:\u00a0Ivy Gonzalez\u00a0for\u00a0Indivisible<\/p>\n

Jacalyn Zander Memorial Inspire Award:\u00a0Dulce Rutledge for\u00a0The Pink Show<\/p>\n

Both exhibitions will be on display until May 9, 2025, in the Gallery of Fine Arts at the Transmountain campus, TM Campus Room 1307, 9570 Gateway Blvd. North, El Paso, TX 79924.<\/p>\n

Admission is free to the public, and hours are:<\/p>\n

Monday: 9:00 a.m. \u2013 3:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

Tuesday: 10:00 a.m. \u2013 4:00 p.m.<\/p>\n

Wednesday: 9:00 a.m. \u2013 3:00 p.m.<\/p>\n
