FORT WORTH, Texas \u2014 The Fort Worth Police Department’s missing persons unit began an investigation on Tuesday, but by Friday, the case became a murder investigation as the victim’s body was found in a field, officials say.<\/p>\n
FWPD says police were first notified about the missing person after he didn’t return home from work on Monday night. The victim’s car was later found at a Quality Inn in Arlington.<\/p>\n
Police say they reviewed motel surveillance footage on Wednesday, where they saw an unknown person, who later became the suspect, arrive at the motel with the victim’s car after he left work.<\/p>\n
Homicide detectives took over the investigation on Thursday, police say. Detectives identified the suspect, 34-year-old Gregory D. Lewis, arresting him on unrelated charges.<\/p>\n
The victim’s body was found Friday on the east side of Fort Worth in an open field, officials said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Police say Lewis later confessed to shooting and killing the victim and stealing his car. The victim and the suspect reportedly worked together. Detectives plan to file a capital murder charge against Lewis, who is currently in custody, officials say.<\/p>\n
