An\u00a0Irish-themed sports bar<\/a> in northeast Houston has suddenly shuttered, leaving its employees in the lurch at the last possible minute. Last weekend, workers at the Mo’s Irish Pub in the northwest Houston suburb of Cypress<\/a> learned via group text that they no longer had jobs.<\/p>\n

News of Mo’s closure at 14102 Mueschke Rd. hit the Cypress Area Foodies group<\/a> on Tuesday. Commenters said the bar had suddenly shuttered, and all of its staff were left out in the cold. Alanna Herrington was one of them. Herrington told Chron she started working at Mo’s in January. Her last day on Sunday.<\/p>\n

“I was at work all day long, everything was normal,” Herrington said. “The new schedule even came out. And that’s when everyone from the group chat started saying we are all unemployed.”<\/p>\n

The group chat came alive about Mo’s closure as early as Saturday. The line staff were scrambling to figure out what had happened. Eventually, one of the managers chimed in and confirmed the news. “Yes Mo’s [sic] closed. I only just found out,” they said. “All shifts are canceled and we need to look for new work yall.”<\/p>\n

According to Herrington, one of the employees who was hired prior to St. Patrick’s Day had told her coworkers that Mo’s was going to shut down. At the time, Herrington said she thought it was just gossip, but it looks like it was oddly prescient in hindsight. “It’s just a slap in the face because as much as you want to believe that your job cares about you or even respect you, 9\/10 [sic] they literally don’t,” she said.<\/p>\n

Mo’s Irish Pub is a chain of Irish-themed sports bars. The first one opened in Milwaukee in 2003. It later expanded into Houston sometime in the 2010s with locations in Katy, Cypress and Vintage Park, just north of Willowbrook. As of Friday, the Katy and Cypress locations have seemingly shuttered, but the Vintage Park location is up and running. We’ve reached out to Mo’s for more information.<\/p>\n
