White Rock Lake has been one of Dallas\u2019s biggest gems since the early 20th century. With nearly 10 miles of trails, multiple parks, sports fields, fishing piers, sailing opportunities and lush green spaces, it\u2019s a gorgeous place to spend a few hours when you\u2019re fortunate enough to have a little free time.<\/p>\n

For thousands of even luckier residents, the lake represents a central gathering place for some of the city\u2019s most beautiful residential neighborhoods.<\/p>\n

Even if you don\u2019t have a home yourself in Lakewood, Forest Hills, Little Forest Hills, Lake Highlands, Casa Linda or one of several other neighborhoods surrounding the 1,254-acre park, you can dream a little real estate dream next weekend when the White Rock Home Tour returns for its 20th anniversary year on Saturday and Sunday, April 25-26.<\/p>\n

Over the past two decades, the White Rock Home Tour has showcased many an architectural masterpiece, from classic mid-century modern to outright modern modern. In addition to building an appreciation for unique homes with thoughtful design, the mission has always been simple: to raise money for the Victor H. Hexter Elementary School PTA.<\/p>\n

Campus improvements, technology advancements and literacy programs are among the programs earmarked for funds raised during the home tour. Public schools have always been a part of the fabric of any neighborhood, so this initiative highlights the best of both.<\/p>\n

This year\u2019s self-guided tour showcases six jaw-dropping homes, including one of only two A-frame homes built by mid-century modern residential architecture firm, Ju-Nel; a rare, Asian-influenced Ju-Nel; a Far+Dang original with a suspended outdoor living space; an Eichler-inspired mid-century modern with stunning updates; a remodeled 1960s ranch style home surrounded by majestic old trees, and an energy-efficient contemporary home inspired by European building traditions and techniques.<\/p>\n

Each of these homes will be open to ticket holders from noon to 5 p.m. both days of the tour.<\/p>\n

Tickets cost $40 per person, per day, or you can purchase a flex pass for $55 that allows you to tour the homes over both days. Children under 12 are free. <\/p>\n

Gay For Good hosting Pride for the Planet events

Gay For Good, a national organization mobilizing LGBTQ+ volunteers and allies to promote diversity, foster inclusion and strengthen ties to the broader community, is holding Pride for the Planet, a week of coordinated environmental service projects happening across the country to create highly visible public-facing volunteer efforts in community spaces while at the same time help the environment.<\/p>\n

Pride for the Planet, taking place April 18-25, includes three projects in Texas \u2014 one in the Dallas-Fort Worth area and two in the Austin area.<\/p>\n

The DFW Gay For Good group is holding the Trinity River Trash Bash on Saturday, April 18, to \u201chelp protect and preserve a vital natural resource\u201d while supporting local efforts to \u201ckeep the river and surrounding green spaces safe and accessible for the community,\u201d according to press releases.<\/p>\n

The event is open to all ages, but anyone under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Those participating should dress appropriately for the weather and wear comfortable, close-toed shoes. Plan to bring a water bottle, sunscreen, bug spray and a hat. Gloves and other supplies will be provided, but you can bring your own if you want.<\/p>\n

This is a project that includes a lot of walking and\/or standing for extended periods, so participants need to be able to walk short distances on uneven ground and be able to bend, squat or kneel repeatedly.<\/p>\n
