With Alabama visiting UFCU Disch-Falk Field on Sunday, Texas baseball<\/a> wasted an opportunity to get its brooms out.<\/p>\n

A ninth-inning rally by Texas came up short in a 2-1 loss to Alabama. The Longhorns had opened this SEC series with 10-2 and 3-1 wins over the Crimson Tide<\/a>, but they were unable to complete their second sweep in conference play.<\/p>\n

This was Alabama\u2019s first win over Texas since 1904.<\/p>\n

After scoring just three times over the first two games of this series, No. 11 Alabama (28-13, 9-9) didn\u2019t exactly explode offensively on Sunday. But Jason Torres\u2019 RBI single in the second inning and the run that Bryce Fowler scored on a double-play groundout in the seventh session turned out to be enough offense to get the job done.<\/p>\n

Offensively, Texas (30-8, 11-6) was held to four hits. That was its fourth-lowest total of the season. Two of those hits helped Texas score its first run in the ninth inning. The Longhorns also got the game-tying run to first base in the final frame, but a\u00a0groundout and Ashton Crowther’s strikeout of Presley Courville ended the game.<\/p>\n

Texas returns to action this upcoming Tuesday with a home game against Air Force. The Longhorns will travel to Nashville next weekend for an SEC series against Vanderbilt.<\/p>\n

Needing two runs to extend this game and three runs to win it, Texas will send Adrian Rodriguez, Anthony Pack Jr. and Ethan Mendoza to the plate in the ninth inning.<\/p>\n

Texas is down to its last three outs at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. Alabama reliever Ashton Crowther retired the Longhorns in order during the eighth inning, and two of those outs were recorded against the top-two batters in the UT lineup (Aiden Robbins and Carson Tinney).<\/p>\n

Texas got its second hit of the day, but another good play at the shortstop position by Alabama’s Justin Lebron led to an inning-ending double play. The Longhorns have been limited to two infield singles today.<\/p>\n

With Luke Harrison still on the mound, Alabama led off the seventh inning with two singles before scoring on a double-play groundout. Harrison has thrown a career-high 106 pitches while allowing eight hits.<\/p>\n

Texas was again held scoreless in the sixth inning, but Alabama has turned this game over to its bullpen. After allowing one hit and three walks over 5 1\/3 innings, Alabama’s Myles Upchurch has called it a day.<\/p>\n

Upchurch threw 102 pitches today. Texas starter Luke Harrison has thrown 96 pitches so far, but he will return to the mound to start the seventh inning.<\/p>\n

With his 10th strikeout of the afternoon, Texas pitcher Luke Harrison got out of a bases-loaded jam in the sixth inning. That 10th strikeout established a career-high total for Harrison, who is a fifth-year senior.<\/p>\n

Harrison and fellow UT starter Dylan\u00a0Volantis, who struck out 12 batters on Friday night<\/a>, have both set their career-high strikeout totals against Alabama this weekend. On Saturday,\u00a0Ruger Riojas ended up one strikeout shy of his career-high total when he struck out 11 Alabama batters<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Through four inning, Texas has been held to just one hit and no runs. The Longhorns have drawn three walks against Myles\u00a0Upchurch.<\/p>\n

On the flip side, Alabama has gotten three hits against UT starter Luke Harrison. Alabama has also struck out seven times against Harrison, who is one strikeout shy of his season-high total.<\/p>\n

For the second straight day, Texas has been held scoreless over the first three innings. Texas has gotten a runner aboard in each of today’s three innings, but the Longhorns are still looking for their first run.<\/p>\n

After reaching base on an Alabama error in the second inning, Texas right fielder\u00a0Dariyan Pendergrass was checked for an injury. Pendergrass stayed in the game, but the senior outfielder was replaced by\u00a0Jayden Duplantier after moving to second base on a wild pitch.<\/p>\n

Thanks to an RBI single from Jason Torres, Alabama has scored first this afternoon. The Crimson Tide had a chance for more runs, but Luke Harrison left the bases loaded with an inning-ending strikeout.<\/p>\n

Texas came up empty in the first inning, but the Longhorns had a chance to score. A strikeout of Temo Becerra by Alabama starter Myles\u00a0Upchurch left the bases loaded.\u00a0<\/p>\n

After striking out 36 batters over the first two games of this series, Texas opened Sunday’s game with two more strikeouts from starter Luke Harrison. The biggest strike of the first inning, though, was thrown by UT left fielder Anthony Pack Jr.. After Alabama’s Brady Neal roped a two-out pitch to left field, Pack threw him out at second base to end the frame.<\/p>\n

Ahead of today’s game, former Texas defensive back Jahdae Barron threw out the ceremonial first pitch at UFCU Disch-Falk Field. An Austin native, Barron recently completed his rookie season with the Denver Broncos<\/a>.<\/p>\n
