SALT LAKE CITY \u2013 Cal Miller<\/a> hit his fourth home run of the season as the Utes completed a dominant weekend at America First Ballpark, securing the series sweep over Texas Tech with a 6\u20133 victory on Sunday afternoon.

\nIt was a balanced effort both in the lineup and for the pitching staff on the way to the win. Seth Graham-Pippin<\/a> went 4.1 innings in his start, striking out a season-best six batters along the way. Kaden Soder<\/a> (2-0) earned the win in relief, navigating a key stretch in the middle innings and Justin Abercrombie<\/a> slammed the door with 2.2 scoreless innings in his second outing of the series. He punched out four Red Raiders and secured his first save as a member of the Utah program.

\nCameron Gurney<\/a> went 2-for-4, drove in Utah’s first run of the game and later scored twice. Miller had three RBIs, thanks in part to his two-run blast in the first inning. Jake Long<\/a> doubled and scored, hitting safely for the eighth straight game. And Jet Gilliam<\/a> was hit by a pitch, extending his on-base streak to 14 games.

\nUtah struck first with a three-run opening frame, highlighted by Gurney’s RBI single before Miller delivered the big swing\u2014launching a two-run homer to right field to give the Utes an immediate 3-0 cushion. That early surge proved critical in a game that tightened in the middle innings.

\nThe Red Raiders put runners in scoring position in each of the first two innings, but Graham-Pippin kept his poise and got out of both frames unharmed. He then worked around a two-out single in the third inning as Utah remained ahead 3-0.

\nThe Utes strung quality at-bats together in their half of the third, loading the bases with nobody out. Miller would go on to draw a bases-loaded walk, Gilliam lifted a sac fly and Matt Flaharty<\/a> came through with an RBI single to push the lead to 6-0.

\nTech would get one back with a solo shot to lead off the fourth inning but Graham-Pippin countered with a strikeout, fly ball and groundout. Then in the fifth, the Red Raiders plated two more runs as the score moved to 6-3.

\nSoder tossed a 1-2-3 sixth inning, capped off by winning an eight-pitch battle with a strikeout of AJ Goytia. He came back out for the seventh and retired the leadoff man before being relieved by Abercrombie, who fanned back-to-back hitters and send the game to seventh inning stretch.

\nAbercrombie retired the side in order in the eighth and kept the Red Raiders at bay in the ninth, despite putting a runner on with one out, effectively putting the tying run to the on deck circle.

\nOverall for the series, Abercrombie dealt 3.2 scoreless innings of relief with just one hit allowed, no walks and six strikeouts. All five of Flaharty’s RBIs on the weekend came in two-out situations.<\/p>\n

Sunday’s attendance of 1,740 fans brought the total for the series to 5,219, the latter setting a new three-game series record for the young history of America First Ballpark.

\nUtah will look ahead to a Tuesday matchup as it remains home against in-state foe Utah Valley. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m. MT inside America First Ballpark.
