Big tech’s continued expansion into North Texas<\/a> continues, with a third driverless ride-hailing provider announcing it is bringing service to the center of Dallas.<\/p>\n

Tesla announced this weekend that its Robotaxi vehicles<\/a> are entering Dallas, where it will compete with both Waymo and Uber’s Avride robotaxis, who each have entered the market since late 2025.<\/p>\n

Announced with a post on X, Tesla showed footage of its Model Y SUVs moving with no drivers on the streets of Dallas and Houston, announcing the expansion in the two other largest Texas metro areas to join Austin, where Tesla is based.<\/p>\n

The state capital has offered fully autonomous Robotaxis since earlier this year after first rolling them out with safety monitors. No details have been offered regarding whether monitors will accompany the first Dallas and Houston Robotaxis. The only other official statement beyond the Robotaxi post was a repost by Elon Musk inviting people in the two cities to try the service out.<\/p>\n

Riders who want to use Robotaxi are invited to download its app, which currently is only available through Apple. Tesla also offered coverage maps in its initial announcement thread. Dallas’ coverage map<\/a> particularly highlighted Highland Park, with primary borders formed by the North Central Expressway, the Stemmons Freeway and by Northwest Highway to the north with nominal service anywhere south of downtown Dallas.<\/p>\n

As for Tesla’s competition, the Avride service has been active in Dallas since this past December<\/a>.
