Mara Araujo\u2019s partner shared photos with KHOU 11. He calls her the most beautiful person he ever met.<\/p>\n

THE WOODLANDS, Texas \u2014 We are learning more about the person who died during Saturday\u2019s IRONMAN Texas race<\/a> in The Woodlands.<\/p>\n

Mara Araujo\u2019s partner shared photos with us. Her name also appears on the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s website.<\/p>\n

Just after 7:30 a.m. Saturday, the fire department was called for a lost swimmer. That swimmer\u2019s body was recovered just after 9 a.m.<\/p>\n

Araujo\u2019s partner told us the 38-year-old was from Brazil, calling her the most beautiful person he ever met. He also said she was a dedicated, strong, kind, and fantastic athlete.<\/p>\n

The Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office said a death investigation is underway, as is normal protocol for a drowning in the county.<\/p>\n

“We are saddened to confirm the death of a race participant during the swim portion of today\u2019s IRONMAN Texas triathlon. We send our deepest sympathies to the family and friends of the athlete and will offer them our support as they go through this very difficult time. Our gratitude goes out to the first responders for their assistance. Out of respect for the athlete and their family, we will have no further comment.”<\/p>\n
