SAN ANTONIO – Chilly temperatures, strong winds, and even brief showers didn\u2019t keep crowds away from Fiesta de los Reyes at Market Square as the event kicked off its first weekend.<\/p>\n

Despite the cooler conditions, people continued to pack the downtown celebration for food, music, and time with friends. \u201cJust music, food, people, friends, hang out. Like, why wouldn’t we want to come out?\u201d Dani Ramirez said.<\/p>\n

Lilly Buentello said the food and entertainment were worth braving the weather. \u201cI love the food, the chicken and the stick, the live music, I mean, everything,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Temperatures dropped into the 50s, and around 4:30, small showers sprinkled the area. Even then, the number of people at the event appeared to increase, with multiple attendees saying the party would continue even if the rain returned.<\/p>\n

Asked, \u201cEven if it starts raining in a little bit?\u201d Ramirez responded, \u201cWe’re still gonna be here. Like, we drove four and a half hours to get here, staying all weekend. So yeah.\u201d<\/p>\n

A controversial $5 cover charge is set to begin tomorrow, starting at 1 p.m. Vendors said they are hoping the crowds remain steady because more people on Market Square\u2019s streets can mean stronger sales.<\/p>\n

One vendor described the business so far as strong. \u201cIt’s been steady, busy. Can’t complain. A lot of customers are coming in, showing a lot of love,\u201d the vendor said.<\/p>\n

After what vendors described as consistent customer traffic over the past two days, they said they are hoping for even more as Fiesta continues. <\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s bringing in a lot of people. For us. We enjoy that….anybody want to come enjoy some good food? More than likely, we’ll be down here,\u201d another vendor said.<\/p>\n
