ARLINGTON, Texas \u2014 A new initiative by the Arlington Police Department encourages residents to enhance neighborhood safety while staying active.<\/p>\n
The Dog Walker Watch program, led by the Arlington Police Department, offers residents, particularly those age 50 and older, a way to contribute positively to their community during their daily walks. Participants are encouraged to remain vigilant during their routines, acting as additional “eyes and ears” for law enforcement without any extra time commitment, according to a press release from the department.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s not only about looking for crime \u2014 you\u2019re also checking out the general condition of your neighborhood,\u201d said program volunteer, Dave Ricy.<\/p>\n
In addition to enhancing public safety, participants can report everyday issues such as road hazards or fallen trees, contributing to the overall well-being of their neighborhoods. City officials say the program has positively impacted Arlington, fostering a sense of safety and connection among residents who are regularly out in their communities.<\/p>\n
The program is open to anyone 18 and older, with a particular appeal to those over 50. Interested individuals can sign up through the Volunteer with Police website.
