{"id":25893,"date":"2025-10-29T08:53:12","date_gmt":"2025-10-29T08:53:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/25893\/"},"modified":"2025-10-29T08:53:12","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T08:53:12","slug":"west-side-nonprofit-welcomes-snap-recipients-who-need-help","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/25893\/","title":{"rendered":"West Side nonprofit welcomes SNAP recipients who need help"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">SAN ANTONIO \u2013 It\u2019s an unsettling time for 40 million Americans who won\u2019t get their Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits in a few days. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">That includes about 300,000 people in Bexar County who will have to think of other ways to keep food on the table. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201c(I\u2019ll) have to eat less,\u201d Jeff Hull said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Hull, a man in his 50s with disabilities, receives about $140 a month in SNAP benefits. He told KSAT that even before the delay, he had to stretch every dollar. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cI could barely afford milk. I usually get powdered milk,\u201d Hull said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Now, Hull plans to ration the food he has left in his cupboard and go to food pantries in his neighborhood to make up the difference. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">KSAT met with Hull as he visited <a href=\"https:\/\/parentingplus.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/parentingplus.net\/\">Parenting Plus<\/a>, a nonprofit on the West Side. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re a nonprofit organization that helps families with small children, and even if you don\u2019t have children, we\u2019re here to help,\u201d said Gena Meyer, executive director of Parenting Plus. \u201cWe offer material assistance, the bare essentials you need for your children \u2014 diapers, wipes, formula &#8230; and we are also a food pantry.\u201d <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Meyer said Parenting Plus helps about 10,000 people every year.
