{"id":259752,"date":"2026-04-21T17:13:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T17:13:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/259752\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T17:13:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T17:13:08","slug":"texas-longhorns-drop-even-after-beating-georgia","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/259752\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Longhorns drop even after beating Georgia"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For the first time this season,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/hookem\/softball\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Texas softball<\/a>\u00a0has dropped out of the top five in the national polls.<\/p>\n<p>The Longhorns landed at No. 7 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association poll released Tuesday. \u00a0But the rankings come with a significant caveat: They didn\u2019t factor in Monday\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/longhorns\/softball\/article\/texas-longhorns-softball-score-today-georgia-22203301.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">series-clinching 6-3 win<\/a> over No. 15 Georgia.<\/p>\n<p>Texas (35-7, 12-6 SEC) picked up 594 votes while finishing behind the six teams that received at least one first-place vote.<\/p>\n<p>The latest rankings reflect the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/longhorns\/softball\/article\/texas-softball-sec-tournament-mike-white-22215677.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">SEC\u2019s continuing dominance<\/a>. Six of the top 10 teams come from the conference, and 10 SEC teams earned a spot in the poll. Texas A&amp;M moved up one spot to No. 11.<\/p>\n<p>Oklahoma remains the No. 1 team for a second straight week by receiving 12 first-place votes and 726 points<\/p>\n<p>After winning two of three games at Georgia,\u00a0Texas hosts No. 18 Oklahoma State in a nonconference game Wednesday at McCombs Field before hosting Kentucky in a three-game SEC series beginning Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Louisville (54), Belmont (27), Clemson (17), Southeastern Louisiana (11), South Carolina (8), Kansas (4), Omaha (4), Nevada (1).<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"For the first time this season,\u00a0Texas softball\u00a0has dropped out of the top five in the national polls.
