In honor of the Dells’ new investment and their lifetime of generosity, the University is establishing the UT Dell Campus for Advanced Research and the UT Dell Medical Center to advance human health. Today’s new commitments also provide significant support for undergraduate student scholarships, student housing and UT’s Texas Advanced Computing Center, one of the nation’s leading supercomputing research centers.

Michael and Susan Dell’s historic investment will shape the future of life sciences innovation and academic medicine and establish Austin as a destination for world-class health care. The UT Dell Campus for Advanced Research will bring together UT’s research strengths, advanced computing capabilities and clinical care in a fully integrated environment. At its center is the UT Dell Medical Center, opening in 2030 and delivering a fully integrated, patient-centered model that connects prevention, diagnosis, treatment and discovery through AI and advanced computing — enabling earlier detection, more precise and personalized care, and better health outcomes.

Powered by the Dells’ generosity, the UT Dell Medical Center is poised to become a leading destination for care and research — leveraging UT’s research breadth, Austin’s technology ecosystem and Texas’ thriving economy. Their commitment sets in motion a goal for the University to raise $10 billion in 10 years and rank in the top 10 for medical centers nationally within a decade.

The Dells’ investment represents one of the largest-ever philanthropic commitments to any U.S. university. Over many years, their support for UT — through scholarships, capital investments and program development — has expanded opportunities for students, strengthened research capacity, attracted top talent and reinforced Texas’ leadership in technology, AI and health innovation. Today’s new investments build on that foundation and take this work to an entirely new level.

“UT Austin, where Dell Technologies was founded from a dorm room, has always been a place where bold ideas become real-world impact,” said Michael and Susan Dell. “What makes this moment so meaningful is the opportunity to build something that brings every part of the journey together — from how students learn, to how discoveries are made, to how care reaches families. By bringing together medicine, science and computing in one campus designed for the AI era, UT can create more opportunity, deliver better outcomes, and build a stronger future for communities across Texas and beyond.”

Central to this vision is a collaboration with The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, which will be integrated into the UT Dell Medical Center to deliver cancer care as part of a unified, patient-centered system. This will provide access to world-class cancer expertise within a coordinated care journey, where specialists, advanced therapies and clinical research are connected from the outset to improve outcomes and experience.

Building a Global Life Sciences Hub

In addition to serving as the home of the UT Dell Medical Center, the UT Dell Campus for Advanced Research will be a major driver of long-term economic growth. The Dells’ investment aims to position Texas as a leading center for life sciences, building on the state’s growing strength in biotechnology and innovation.

“Texas already dominates in technology, energy, and business, and now we will further cement our leadership in health care innovation as well,” said Governor Greg Abbott. “Bringing together UT and the world-renowned MD Anderson into one integrated care center connects two excellent institutions whose work will drive the next generation of medical breakthroughs. Through this partnership and state-of-the-art medical center, Texans will have access to even better care from the best medical minds in the world.”

At a flagship public university built for scale, the investment also positions Texas to accelerate discovery, spur innovation, and reimagine what’s possible for human health.

“Susan and Michael Dell have changed The University of Texas, Austin, and the world,” said UT System Board of Regents Chairman Kevin Eltife. “They have supported countless students through scholarships. Thanks to their lifetime of generosity and impact — and driven by the outstanding leadership of Governor Abbott, Chairman Eltife, and our Board of Regents — we are bringing a new vision for human health to life. This is a defining moment for The University of Texas, and we are grateful to Susan and Michael for making it possible.”

The UT Dell Campus for Advanced Research and the UT Dell Medical Center will become a leading destination where care, discovery and innovation converge.
