EL PASO, Texas (KTSM<\/a>) \u2014 City Rep. Cynthia Boyar Trejo addressed community concerns about the closure of the Bowling Family YMCA in Northeast El Paso and provided a solution for pool services.<\/p>\n

As previously reported by KTSM, members of the community have voiced their frustrations over the Bowling Family YMCA, located at 5509 Will Ruth Avenue, upcoming closure in May\/<\/p>\n

Following a City Council meeting on April 14, where residents expressed dissatisfaction with the community center closing, Boyar Trejo provided an update in a video posted to Facebook on Friday, April 17.<\/p>\n

She announced Camp Cohen Water Park, which is owned by the City of El Paso, would be open, offering its pool services.<\/p>\n

\u201cCamp Cohen will be open, offering community morning swim, Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for ages 14 and older, and it will be open for lap swimming, and water fitness swimming lessons will also continue,\u201d Boyar Trejo announced in her video. \u201cI know this isn\u2019t a replacement, but it\u2019s a step.\u201d<\/p>\n

City of El Paso to regain control of Bowling YMCA Branch <\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cThe closure of the Y is more than just a loss of a facility,\u201d Boyar Trejo said in the video. \u201cThis is something that I am taking seriously.\u201d<\/p>\n

At same time, Veterans Indoor Pool in Northeast El Paso, remains closed due to repairs. It\u2019s expected to reopen and serve the community in the Fall.<\/p>\n
