{"id":260259,"date":"2026-04-21T23:29:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-21T23:29:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/260259\/"},"modified":"2026-04-21T23:29:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-21T23:29:08","slug":"federal-court-of-appeals-rules-in-favor-of-texas-ten-commandments-law","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/260259\/","title":{"rendered":"Federal court of appeals rules in favor of Texas&#8217; Ten Commandments law"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A federal appeals court has ruled against a number of Texas families who sought to block school districts from displaying the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/education\/2025\/12\/29\/texas-mandated-displaying-the-ten-commandments-in-classrooms-what-legal-battles-ensued\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Ten Commandments<\/a> in public school classrooms.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In a split opinion filed Tuesday, the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals sided with the state of Texas and reversed a ruling by a federal judge that prohibited some Texas schools from displaying the Ten Commandments.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes, Plaintiffs have sincere religious disagreements with its content,&#8221; Judge Stuart Kyle Duncan wrote for the majority. &#8220;But that does not transform the poster into a summons to prayer.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Several families, both from religious and nonreligious backgrounds, brought the lawsuit against a number of Texas school districts, including Plano ISD, in July 2025, and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/education\/2025\/08\/20\/federal-judge-temporarily-blocks-ten-commandments-law-in-some-texas-school-districts\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">federal judge in August issued a preliminary injunction<\/a> preventing the school districts named in the case from displaying the Ten Commandments.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday&#8217;s opinion reversed that injunction.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The districts, represented by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton&#8217;s office,\u00a0appealed the decision. Paxton asked the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals to hear the case along with a challenge to a similar law in Louisiana and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/education\/2026\/01\/20\/fight-over-ten-commandments-laws-in-texas-louisiana-scrutinized-in-new-orleans-court\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the court\u00a0heard arguments in January<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Dallas Morning News\u00a0reached out to a spokesperson for the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas, who is representing the families, for a comment.
