{"id":260493,"date":"2026-04-22T02:27:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T02:27:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/260493\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T02:27:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T02:27:08","slug":"elon-musks-tesla-robotaxis-rev-up-in-2-new-texas-cities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/260493\/","title":{"rendered":"Elon Musk&#8217;s Tesla robotaxis rev up in 2 new Texas cities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The richest man in the world is revving full steam ahead on his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/business\/article\/amazon-zoox-austin-22141933.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">driverless\u00a0robotaxis<\/a> efforts, targeting two new Texas cities nearly one year after autonomous Tesla technology\u00a0first set up shop in Austin.<\/p>\n<p>Elon Musk&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/business\/article\/tesla-robotaxi-austin-texas-launch-20389391.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Tesla robotaxis<\/a> have expanded into the Texas cities of Dallas and Houston, the <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/robotaxi\/status\/2045564609504116771?s=46&amp;t=dDcpMIMYg6fdPePSTT9k6w\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">company announced<\/a> via a teaser video posted over the weekend. Outside of Austin, Dallas and Houston, Tesla also operates robotaxi services with human drivers in California&#8217;s Silicon Valley region.<\/p>\n<p>The self-driving taxis made their grand debut on June 22, 2025, to a select group of influencers in Austin, despite <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/lifestyle\/travel\/article\/tesla-robotaxi-safety-austin-20351329.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">numerous safety concerns raised<\/a> in relation to Tesla&#8217;s Autopilot and full self-driving (FSD) software. Both of those software features had been linked to hundreds of nonfatal incidents and dozens of deaths, prompting the U.S. Department of Transportation&#8217;s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/business\/article\/elon-musk-robotaxis-austin-20324690.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">raise questions about the programming.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Despite that pushback, Tesla&#8217;s operations continued in the Lone Star State, with the Austin-headquartered company expanding its services in the Texas capital back in January via rideshare services sans safety drivers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.austintexas.gov\/transportation-public-works\/autonomous-vehicles\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Autonomous vehicle technology<\/a> has been rampant in Austin over the years, prompting the city to launch its <a href=\"https:\/\/austin.maps.arcgis.com\/apps\/dashboards\/dbd59d9b20634de1afad32a8267b739b\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">AV dashboard<\/a> back in July 2023. To date, that dashboard has recorded 258 incidents involving AV vehicles from Avride, Tesla, Waymo, Zoox and the now-debunked Cruise. Zooming in on Tesla, city data reports five incidents related to its robotaxi technology, all of which have been classified as &#8220;safety concerns.&#8221; Those reported incidents happened in July and December 2025, as well as one incident in March and two thus far in April.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Tesla, Waymo and Zoox are the only deployed AV vehicles currently operating in Austin.
