{"id":260927,"date":"2026-04-22T09:25:07","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T09:25:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/260927\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T09:25:07","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T09:25:07","slug":"judges-ban-is-major-loss-for-san-antonio-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/260927\/","title":{"rendered":"Judge&#8217;s ban is major loss for San Antonio community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The lifetime ban of Judge Rosie Speedlin Gonzalez from the judiciary is a huge loss to our community, especially to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/aitscm.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/08\/Reflejo-Court-Fact-Sheet.pdf\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Reflejo Court<\/a> that she developed into a national model for battling domestic violence.<\/p>\n<p>Anything that\u00a0Speedlin Gonzalez did in her court was out of her passion to break the domestic violence cycle.<\/p>\n<p>She has been a lightning rod for controversy because being true to herself meant she did not fit the \u201cjudicial mold\u201d dictated by others.<\/p>\n<p>I have been privileged to know Speedlin Gonzalez for decades, and she is one of the most committed, passionate legal advocates I have ever seen.<\/p>\n<p>No one can take her place, which sadly means that domestic violence victims as well as first offenders (the target of\u00a0Reflejo Court) will suffer, which means we all\u00a0lose.<\/p>\n<p>Experience vs. energy<\/p>\n<p>The Editorial Board\u2019s recommendation overlooked two highly qualified candidates. Based on profiles from the Express-News, both are retired educators with extensive experience in higher education, student success programs and budgeting.<\/p>\n<p>In previous recommendations, the Editorial Board listed the positives and\/or negatives of the candidates.
