{"id":261117,"date":"2026-04-22T12:59:53","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T12:59:53","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/261117\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T12:59:53","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T12:59:53","slug":"corpus-christi-miller-turns-to-mchugh-to-sustain-winning-tradition","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/261117\/","title":{"rendered":"Corpus Christi Miller Turns to McHugh to Sustain Winning Tradition"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:center\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasfootball.com\/coaching-changes\/?ref=nav\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"\" height=\"405\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/04\/Revised-DCTX---Coaching-Changes-Landing-Page-1.png\" width=\"720\"\/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasfootball.com\/team\/bishop-badgers?ref=search\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Bishop<\/a> head coach David McHugh has been named the next head coach at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.texasfootball.com\/team\/corpus-christi-miller-buccaneers?ref=search\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Corpus Christi Miller<\/a>, Corpus Christi ISD announced on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>McHugh replaces Justen Evans, who departed to take over at Denton Braswell.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>McHugh, who was named head coach at Bishop just over a year ago, led the Badgers to a 5-6 record and a playoff appearance in his lone season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cConsidering the success Miller has had the past nine seasons under Coach Evans, it was a really intriguing opportunity to explore,&#8221; McHugh said.\u00a0&#8220;Some of the best athletes in the Coastal Bend have come through Miller.\u00a0They\u2019ve had lots of sub-varsity success and there\u2019s unreal support from the community.\u00a0The Miller alumni base supports the Bucs like no other.\u00a0I\u2019d put them up against anyone in Texas.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Prior to coming to Bishop, McHugh spent time as an offensive coordinator at his alma mater, Ingleside. The McMurry University graduate also spent time on staff at Taft, Mathis and San Antonio TMI. McHugh\u2019s twin brother Matt McHugh is currently on staff at SMU.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBishop bought in and put their faith in a young coach.\u00a0It really means a lot to me,&#8221; he said.\u00a0&#8220;Everything about this place is family oriented and they love on you. That makes hard to say goodbye. The kids from Day 1 truly bought in and put their best foot forward and I really appreciate and love those guys. Bishop\u2019s going to win a lot of football games in 2026 and I\u2019m excited to see what they do.\u00a0I hope I left it a little better than I found it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>With the late timeline of the hire, McHugh says he plans on getting right to work.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s no time to sit around,&#8221; he said. &#8220;Our Week 1 game isn\u2019t getting moved just because I got here late.\u00a0We are going to jump in and get to work here at the end of the year and get ready for summer strength work and 7-on-7.
