{"id":261161,"date":"2026-04-22T13:44:09","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T13:44:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/261161\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T13:44:09","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T13:44:09","slug":"5-hospitalized-after-san-antonio-home-explosions-power-shut-off","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/261161\/","title":{"rendered":"5 hospitalized after San Antonio home explosions, power shut off"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Several residents on San Antonio&#8217;s Northeast Side were evacuated after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/business\/article\/texas-oil-rig-explosion-22217597.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">two explosions<\/a> at homes on the evening of Tuesday, April 21. Five people were injured, authorities say.<\/p>\n<p>Crews with the San Antonio Fire Department (SAFD) responded to the 15000 block of Preston Hollow near the Hollywood Park area shortly after 6\u00a0p.m., the agency tells MySA.<\/p>\n<p>Authorities discovered a home with the rear of its structure blown out and quickly contained the fire. Three residents in that home were transported to the hospital with burn injuries. The San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) says they were all in stable condition.<\/p>\n<p>While officers were on the scene, though, a neighboring house exploded.\u00a0The second blast happened just before 8:30 p.m., SAFD says. Two residents in that home were also transported to the hospital with similar injuries as those involved in the first explosion. These individuals were also in stable condition, per SAPD.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are currently working with CPS Energy to determine an exact cause of the explosions,&#8221; SAFD says. &#8220;We have currently evacuated the surrounding area, and utilities are off as well.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>City Council District 10 official Marc Whyte <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/CityCouncilDistrict10\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">provided updates<\/a> on social media throughout the evening. He said about 20 homes were evacuated, and\u00a0SAFD helped transport residents to the temporary shelter set up at the\u00a0NorthEast Senior Center located at 4135 Thousand Oaks Drive. CPS Energy will work with anyone who is displaced with hotel costs, Whyte said in a Facebook post. Folks who were affected should call the City Council District 10 Office to request reimbursement.\u00a0Whyte added.<\/p>\n<p>CPS Energy says that five customers remain without power as of 6 a.m. on Wednesday, April 22. The company&#8217;s Customer Response Unit was in the neighborhood Tuesday night and at the temporary shelter set up at the NorthEast Senior Center. The team will return\u00a0there at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday to assist with customer questions and provide temporary shelter.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;As a reminder, if anyone ever thinks they smell gas in their homes, they should always leave the house immediately and call CPS Energy at 210-353-HELP (4357) or 911,&#8221; CPS Energy said. &#8220;The safety of our customers is our priority as we conduct this work and we appreciate their understanding.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The District 10 team, led by Whyte, was\u00a0monitoring the situation and in contact with\u00a0SAFD and San Antonio City management every half hour, he said on social media just before 12 a.m. on Wednesday. Some team members will be on site, and others will be at the Northeast Senior Center.
