{"id":261579,"date":"2026-04-22T19:25:49","date_gmt":"2026-04-22T19:25:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/261579\/"},"modified":"2026-04-22T19:25:49","modified_gmt":"2026-04-22T19:25:49","slug":"36-year-old-inmate-dies-while-in-custody-at-tarrant-county-jail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/261579\/","title":{"rendered":"36-year-old inmate dies while in custody at Tarrant County jail"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>An inmate\u00a0died three days after being booked at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/topic\/tarrant-county\/?utm_source=paid_marketing&amp;utm_medium=google&amp;utm_campaign=content_acquisition&amp;gad_source=1&amp;gad_campaignid=23423742462&amp;gbraid=0AAAAADjVYgFuUfNH8FYVj8fj9fR4GJmpS&amp;gclid=CjwKCAjw46HPBhAMEiwASZpLRBywoOriwukm-vfX5oyoSNDqHnZENR9b2_BELu6EB_p4HXEw281q3RoC2m4QAvD_BwE\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Tarrant County<\/a> jail,\u00a0officials said.<\/p>\n<p>36-year-old John\u00a0Barr was found unresponsive in his jail cell on Sunday, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner and sheriff&#8217;s office.<\/p>\n<p>Barr received medical assistance at the jail and then taken to John Peter Smith Hospital where he later died.<\/p>\n<p>Barr was booked into the jail on April 16 after he was arrested by the Texas Department of Public Safety on a parole violation, the sheriff&#8217;s office said.<\/p>\n<p>As of Wednesday afternoon, a cause of death has not been been publicly shared by the medical examiner&#8217;s office.<\/p>\n<p>All in-custody deaths are investigated and reviewed by Tarrant County sheriff\u2019s office jail staff, the\u00a0TCSO criminal investigations division, the county medical examiner\u2019s office, an outside law enforcement agency, John Peter Smith Hospital medical staff, the Texas Attorney General\u2019s Office and the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.<\/p>\n<p>In December, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/crime\/2025\/12\/24\/40-year-old-identified-as-tarrant-county-inmate-who-died-after-being-found-unresponsive\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">another inmate<\/a> died while in custody at the jail.
