BROOKSVILLE, Florida \u2013\u00a0The UNT women’s golf team fell one shot shy of its best-ever finish at the American Conference Championship.

\nThe Mean Green ended the three-day 11-team event on Wednesday in sixth place with a three-round score of 893 (+29) but was just one stroke from a program record fourth-place finish. On Wednesday North Texas had its best round of this year’s event as they shot a 293 (+5) to propel themselves up two positions.
\n\u00a0
\nSenior Malisone Chanthapanya<\/a> ended the championship with a team-best score of 220 (+4), which was good enough for a seventh-place finish on the player leaderboard. It’s her fourth top 10 finish of the year.
\n\u00a0
\nAfter a less-than-ideal start to the championship on Monday that saw the Mean Green shoot a 306 (+18) in round one and sit in 10th place, UNT dug its way out with the event’s third-best score over the final two rounds.
\n\u00a0
\nNorth Texas shot a 587 (+11) over the final two rounds. Only the event’s champion Tulsa and runner-up Charlotte were better over the final two rounds.

\nThe Mean Green’s Chanthapanya was the last on her team to finish the round Wednesday. UNT needed her shoot a one-under par on her final two holes for the Mean Green to finish the championship in a tie for fourth place. The\u00a0senior bogeyed the first of her final two holes \u2014 a par three \u2014 and then birdied her final hole.

\nUNT finished one stroke behind East Carolina and Florida Atlantic who each shot a 892 (+28) and finished in the tie for fourth place.<\/p>\n
