Here\u2019s a roundup:<\/p>\n<p>The Dallas City Council approved measures to finalize accepting $8 million in state grants to improve two southern Dallas parks. The money, $5 million for Judge Charles R. Rose Community Park and another $3 million for the upcoming Community Park at Fair Park, were awarded through Senate Bill 1, which passed last June and allocates state funding for local projects.<\/p>\n<p>The council&#8217;s approval authorizes the city to submit formal applications to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which administers the grants, and to establish the funds needed to receive and disburse the money.<\/p>\n<p>The Park and Recreation Board approved the grant applications on April 16.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/2025\/06\/08\/this-is-a-blessing40-acre-judge-charles-r-rose-community-park-opens-in-southern-dallas\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Judge Charles R. Rose Community Park<\/a>, a 40-acre space in Highland Hills, opened last spring after a partnership between the city and the Trust for Public Land. The $5 million grant will help expand amenities like trails and recreational areas, said council member Lorie Blair.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/news\/2026\/02\/25\/fair-park-gets-green-light-for-community-park-in-south-dallas-in-dallas-city-council-vote\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">The Community Park at Fair Park<\/a>, a 10-acre project near Exposition and South Fitzhugh avenues has been in the works for years. The $3 million grant will support its development, with the park expected to open by late 2027. Council member Adam Bazaldua called the move \u201cone step closer\u201d to bringing the park to life.<\/p>\n<p>The Dallas City Council approved designating the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dallasnews.com\/world-cup\/\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">2026 FIFA World Cup<\/a> as an officially recognized city special event.<\/p>\n<p>City officials say the designation allows Dallas to streamline permitting requests related to the tournament, which runs from June 11 through July 19.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>City Manager Kimberly Bizor Tolbert <a href=\"https:\/\/dallascityhall.com\/government\/citymanager\/Documents\/FY25-26%20Memos\/Special%20Event%20Designation%20for%20FIFA%20Memo.pdf\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">in an April 17 memo<\/a> to the City Council explained this step was necessary &#8220;in ensuring Dallas&#8217; safety and readiness as a host city&#8221; for the world&#8217;s largest sporting event, expected to bring millions of visitors to North Texas.
