{"id":26212,"date":"2025-10-29T14:25:59","date_gmt":"2025-10-29T14:25:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/26212\/"},"modified":"2025-10-29T14:25:59","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T14:25:59","slug":"fort-worth-agreed-to-pay-fire-chief-99999-to-drop-claims-against-the-city","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/26212\/","title":{"rendered":"Fort Worth agreed to pay fire chief $99,999 to drop claims against the city"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Soon to be former Fort Worth fire Chief Jim Davis had some complaints about his time as a city of Fort Worth employee, according to a separation agreement shared with the Star-Telegram.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Rather than hash out those claims in court, the city agreed to pay Davis $99,999.00 and Davis agreed to drop all claims against the city, according to the agreement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The specifics weren\u2019t immediately available, but they include dropping claims against the city under laws covering age discrimination, the American Disabilities Act, family medical leave, Texas labor code and Texas Whistleblower Act, according to the agreement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The Star-Telegram filed a records request seeking emails between Davis\u2019s lawyer Stephen Kennedy and city officials in an attempt to get more context surrounding Davis\u2019s claims.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cI can confirm Kennedy Law represented Chief Davis with respect to the claims that are the subject of the settlement agreement. We have no further comment at this time,\u201d Kennedy said in response to an email from the Star-Telegram.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Davis has been on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/news\/local\/fort-worth\/article312236283.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:paid administrative leave since Sept. 22;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">paid administrative leave since Sept. 22<\/a>, which city officials said was due to a \u201cpersonnel matter\u201d without giving any details.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The agreement states an outside law firm was hired to investigate the personnel matter and that the investigation has since concluded, but doesn\u2019t offer any other details.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Representatives for the city did not immediately respond to an email from the Star-Telegram seeking information about the investigation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Davis signed the agreement on Oct. 17 along with City Manager Jay Chapa, Assistant City Manager William Johnson, and assistant city attorney Laetitia Coleman Brown. The city <a href=\"https:\/\/www.star-telegram.com\/news\/local\/fort-worth\/article312547944.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:announced his resignation the same day.;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">announced his resignation the same day.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Davis will stay on paid leave until Oct. 31, after which point he\u2019ll no longer be a city employee, according to the agreement.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">\u201cWe appreciate Chief Davis\u2019 years of dedicated service to the city and wish him well in his future endeavors,\u201d Mayor Mattie Parker said in the statement announcing Davis\u2019s resignation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">The city council voted unanimously to approve appointing assistant Chief Raymond Hill as interim fire chief at its Oct. 28 meeting.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Davis began his service as Fort Worth\u2019s fire chief in October 2018.
