K-9 Figor was given the Star of Texas award after being shot during a call in April 2023<\/p>\n
DALLAS \u2014 The Dallas Police Association held a ceremony Wednesday night to honor the department’s most decorated K-9 officer.\u00a0<\/p>\n
K-9 Officer Figor, who’s been with the Dallas Police Department since 2022, was celebrated April 22, 2026 as he begins his retirement.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Members of the Dallas Police Department celebrated alongside Figor’s handler, Sr. Cpl. Scott Jay.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Unsurprisingly, Jay speaks highly of Figor, calling him \u201cvery special.”\u00a0<\/p>\n
“We’re here to honor him and all that he’s given in his time on with the department and for the citizens of Dallas,\u201d Jay said.<\/p>\n
In April 2023, both Sr. Cpl Jay and Figor were injured in an officer-involved shooting while searching for suspect Bryan Casillas in the 2900 block of Cypress Ave.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Bodycam footage<\/a> released by Dallas police shows the moments leading up to and after the shooting. Police say Jay was shot in the leg while Figor was shot in the chest. Figor, despite being shot, kept pursuing Casillas, who was shot by Jay and died at the scene.<\/p>\n Then-Dallas Police Chief Eddie Garcia called Figor a “hero” for his actions, saying the dog helped save his partner’s life as both were shot.\u00a0<\/p>\n By September of the same year, both Sr. Cpl Jay and Figor were back on duty together.<\/p>\n
