{"id":262554,"date":"2026-04-23T10:47:11","date_gmt":"2026-04-23T10:47:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/262554\/"},"modified":"2026-04-23T10:47:11","modified_gmt":"2026-04-23T10:47:11","slug":"5-texas-am-players-to-watch-for-this-weekend","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/262554\/","title":{"rendered":"5 Texas A&#038;M players to watch for this weekend"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>COLLEGE STATION \u2014 Ahead of the 2025-26 season kicking off,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/tamu\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Texas A&amp;M football<\/a> head coach Mike Elko made a bold draft proclamation.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/cdn-channels-pixel.ex.co\/events\/0012000001fxZm9AAE?integrationType=DEFAULT&amp;template=design%2Farticle%2Fplatypus_two_column.tpl\" alt=\"\" class=\"x1px y1px vh abs\" aria-hidden=\"true\" width=\"1\" height=\"1\"\/><\/p>\n<p>The most Aggies ever selected in the NFL draft came in 2019, when nine A&amp;M stars were drafted. However, the Aggies&#8217; head coach thinks this year&#8217;s class could surpass that total.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;When you look at the current roster, we project to have more NFL draft picks on this (2025) football team than we have had in quite a long time,&#8221; Elko said\u00a0May 21. &#8220;I think you can see anywhere from 10 to 12\u00a0Aggies get their name called next year in the NFL Draft.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\">MORE:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/aggies\/article\/texas-am-aggies-score-today-spring-game-22213075.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Texas A&amp;M spring game 2026: Recap, highlights as defenses shine, linebacker injured<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"MM_onlineOnly\" title=\"CCI Online Only\">Fast-forward to the present day, and A&amp;M set a school record with 13 invitees to the NFL combine, bringing Elko&#8217;s prediction well within reach.<\/p>\n<p>Here are five Texas A&amp;M football players to watch in the 2026 NFL draft:<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>5 Texas A&amp;M players to watch for in 2026 NFL Draft<\/p>\n<p>KC Concepcion, WR<\/p>\n<p>Wide receiver <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/aggies\/article\/kc-concepcion-nfl-draft-2026-texas-am-football-21298564.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">KC Concepcion<\/a>\u00a0has seen his stock rise since the conclusion of the season. Following his lone year with the Aggies, after which he was named the 2025 Paul\u00a0Hornung Award winner as the most versatile player in major college football, he has crushed the draft process. He did not participate in testing at the NFL combine, but did look smooth in on-field drills. He also showed his personality a bit, most recently writing a heartfelt message via <a href=\"https:\/\/www.theplayerstribune.com\/kc-concepcion-nfl-draft-ncaa-football-texas-a-m\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">The Players&#8217; Tribune.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The North Carolina native has dealt with a stutter all his life and has been more open and honest about the struggle since entering the NFL spotlight. Watch out for a team that needs a shifty wide receiver who can work inside and out and be a weapon in the return game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Cashius Howell, edge<\/p>\n<p>Perhaps the most talented member of the A&amp;M draft class, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/sports\/college\/aggies\/article\/cashius-howell-nfl-draft-2026-texas-am-22219329.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Cashius Howel<\/a>l is fresh off a consensus All-American season in which he led the conference in sacks (11\u00bd).\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The Kansas City native exploded onto the national scene after being a rotational pass rusher in 2024. He started his career in the Mid-American Conference with Bowling Green. After being an all-conference selection there, the 6-foot-3 pass rusher tallied 15\u00bd sacks, 22\u00bd tackles for loss and two forced fumbles during his time with the Aggies. Then he ran well at the scouting combine, offsetting concern about his relatively short arms.<\/p>\n<p>The 2025 SEC defensive player of the year could be a fit for teams looking for a standup end in a 3-4 defense or as a pure pass rusher in a 4-3 scheme. Howell has flashed elite athletic skills in his pass rush arsenal and plays with a tremendous motor in the run game. In fact, some draftniks have him as\u00a0the<a href=\"https:\/\/aggieswire.usatoday.com\/story\/sports\/college\/aggies\/football\/2026\/04\/21\/ol-chase-bisontis-considered-first-round-sleeper-in-2026-nfl-draft-texas-aggies-football\/89709283007\/\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\"> first A&amp;M player <\/a>selected this year.<\/p>\n<p>The 6-foot-5, 315-pound guard appeared in 36 games for the Aggies over three seasons and became a stalwart on an offensive line that was considered for the Joe Moore Award in 2025.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Bistonis is viewed as a &#8220;tough, well-schooled guard&#8221; by NFL analyst\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nfl.com\/prospects\/chase-bisontis\/32004249-5372-8645-6b45-2c7f24fa2511\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Lance Zierlein<\/a>. Martinez\/Austin American-Statesman<\/p>\n<p>Tyler Onyedim, DL<\/p>\n<p>A sleeper in the class,\u00a0A&amp;M defensive lineman Tyler Onyedim was a crucial transfer portal addition for the Aggies this offseason\u00a0and continued to show his value well into the draft process.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Onyedim had a great week in Frisco at the East-West Shrine Bowl and is viewed as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nflmockdraftdatabase.com\/players\/2026\/tyler-onyedim\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">potentially early Day 3<\/a> pick. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound run-stuffer had a career year in 2025, finishing with 48 tackles, 2\u00bd sacks and 8\u00bd tackles for loss.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>He spent his four seasons with Iowa State, tallying 90 tackles, 12 tackles for loss and three sacks.<\/p>\n<p>Trey Zuhn III,\u00a0OL<\/p>\n<p>A true leader in every sense, Trey Zuhn III was a fixture on the A&amp;M offensive line for five seasons. At 6-foot-6, 315 pounds, Zuhn appeared in 54 games for the Aggies, was a two-year captain and played both tackle and center throughout his career.<\/p>\n<p class=\"uiTextSmall f aic jcc\">Article continues below this ad<\/p>\n<p>Zuhn&#8217;s interior experiment in 2025, when he played center, was\u00a0perhaps a sign of foresight on the program&#8217;s part.
