The Home Depot, the world\u2019s largest home improvement retailer with more than 2,300 stores across North America, is planning its first location in San Marcos, according to newly filed state construction records<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The $13 million project is slated for the northeast quadrant of I-35 North Frontage Road and McCarty Road, a rapidly developing area near Tanger Outlets San Marcos, according to the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR). The site also sits close to a new 114,000-square-foot H-E-B currently under construction, further anchoring the corridor as a hotspot for large-scale retail growth.<\/p>\n

Plans show the new Home Depot will span approximately 107,797 square feet, along with a 28,120-square-foot garden center, bringing the total footprint to nearly 136,000 square feet, according to state records. Construction is expected to begin in September 2026, with completion targeted for August 2027. All TDLR filings are subject to change without notice. The project is privately funded and will be built on private land, according to the filings.<\/p>\n

Home Depot\u2019s arrival reflects continued demand driven by population growth and development across the region, as San Marcos increasingly serves as a midpoint hub between Austin and San Antonio. The retailer offers a wide range of building materials, tools, appliances and services geared toward both do-it-yourself customers and professional contractors.<\/p>\n

As home to Texas State University, San Marcos has seen steady expansion in housing, retail, and infrastructure in recent years, much of it concentrated along the I-35 corridor.
