AUSTIN, TX \u2014 Seven train cars derailed in downtown Austin early Thursday, prompting road closures and disrupting traffic.<\/p>\n
The derailment occurred around 5 a.m. near the intersection of Bowie Street and West Third Street, not far from the Spring Condominiums, according to Union Pacific Railroad. The train was carrying a total of 230 cars loaded with mixed commodities.<\/p>\n
Austin police said officers arrived at the scene shortly after 5:10 a.m. No injuries have been reported, and the cause of the derailment remains under investigation.<\/p>\n
As a result of the incident, Oltorf Street and Mary Street were closed east of South Lamar Boulevard. Authorities urged drivers to avoid the area due to ongoing delays.<\/p>\n
Union Pacific said at approximately 8:30 a.m. that the two affected crossings were expected to reopen within the hour.\u00a0<\/p>\n
