AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has launched an investigation into Austin ISD’s annual Pride Week, officials confirmed to KVUE on Thursday.\u00a0<\/p>\n
This comes after a call from a State Board of Education (SBOE) member who accused AISD of breaking a newly passed law. \u00a0<\/p>\n
SBOE Member Brandon Hall, a far-right conservative from the Fort Worth area, claimed in March that AISD was violating a 2025 Texas law restricting districts\u2019 ability to sponsor clubs, host groups, or deliver instruction related to gender identity or sexual orientation.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Now that accusation has resulted in an official investigation by the TEA. The agency confirmed the investigation, but said it could not comment further at this time.\u00a0<\/p>\n
We don’t know what penalties AISD could face if the state finds wrongdoing.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The district held Pride Week this year from March 23 through March 27 for the 12th annual celebration, and the district has described it as a spirit week.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The district’s promotional website for the week said students could do things like wear colorful clothing. Last year, students made friendship bracelets, organized their own panel discussions, and held ice cream socials after scaling back what they had done in past years.\u00a0<\/p>\n
