HOUSTON \u2013 Residents in Houston\u2019s Heights neighborhood say a dangerous intersection has caused crash after crash \u2014 and despite repeated attempts to get the city to act, they\u2019re still waiting for a fix.<\/p>\n
At the intersection of West 27th Street and Lawrence Street, neighbors say drivers are regularly confused by a two-way stop \u2014 and the consequences have been serious.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery day I hear horns blaring, because someone is not understanding it\u2019s a two-way stop,\u201d said Jeff Sanger, who has lived near the intersection for about two years.<\/p>\n
Sanger says the danger is impossible to ignore. \u201cThis is the car that was T-boned and ended up in the ditch,\u201d he said, pulling up a photo on his phone.<\/p>\n
311 complaints closed without a fix<\/p>\n
Residents say they\u2019ve filed multiple 311 complaints and even submitted a petition asking for changes \u2014 but both cases were closed without a solution.<\/p>\n
In one response, Houston Public Works said a stop sign wouldn\u2019t reduce speeding and referred the issue to the police department. Another response cited nearby construction, saying the request won\u2019t be revisited until after it\u2019s complete \u2014 a timeline that could stretch into late 2027.<\/p>\n
Councilwoman pushes Houston Public Works to reassess<\/p>\n
District C Councilwoman Abbie Kamin says her team was looped into the requests and insists the problem extends beyond this one intersection.<\/p>\n
\u201cSafety can\u2019t wait,\u201d Kamin said.<\/p>\n
Kamin says similar two-way stops across the Heights area are causing confusion for drivers, and her office is now pushing Houston Public Works to take another look.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re continuing to escalate\u2026 can you please reassess this?\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Neighbors ask: what\u2019s it going to take?<\/p>\n
For residents living near the intersection, the frustration is building \u2014 and the fear is real.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhat\u2019s it going to take before they do something?\u201d Sanger said.<\/p>\n
KPRC 2 reached out to Houston Public Works for more clarity on whether the intersection is still under review but had not received a response. <\/p>\n
Kamin encourages anyone with a similar neighborhood concern to file a 311 report and loop in her office directly so she can help escalate the issue.<\/p>\n
