The Stars \u201care considering\u201d a new $1B arena in Plano<\/a>, a move that could see the team \u201cleave downtown Dallas for the first time in its history,\u201d according to sources cited by Wooten, Womack & Kersh of the DALLAS MORNING NEWS. Sources said that the Shops at Willow Bend Mall site has \u201cemerged as the favorite\u201d to land the Stars — after \u201cdiscussions with cities<\/a> including Frisco, The Colony, Arlington and Fort Worth\u201d — if the team leaves the American Airlines Center after its lease expires in 2031. The team declined to comment. <\/p>\n

Stars President Brad Alberts said in an interview earlier this month that they are \u201clooking for a facility with \u2019365-day revenue.\u2019\u201d The team\u2019s HQ and practice facility is currently in Frisco. The Mavericks and Stars both moved into the AAC when the venue opened in 2001. The Mavericks, under the ownership of the Adelson family, are looking to \u201cbuild a new basketball-first arena in Dallas<\/a>, freeing the Stars to find a new home\u201d when their lease ends. Wooten, Womack & Kersh noted the relationship between the two Dallas franchises has \u201cdeteriorated over the last year, reaching a climax\u201d yesterday when the Mavericks filed suit against the Stars<\/a>.
