AUSTIN, Texas \u2014 Halloween might be right around the corner, but there\u2019s nothing spooky about this week\u2019s \u201cWednesday Friendsday\u201d feature. In fact, this furry friend is all about good vibes. Meet Dude, a lovable pup from the Austin Animal Center<\/a> who\u2019s looking for a forever home that matches his easygoing personality.<\/p>\n

Our friend Kimberly White Erlinger stopped by to tell Trevor Scott and Sierra Waggoner more about Dude \u2014 and it\u2019s safe to say, this guy is as cool as his name.<\/p>\n

\u201cDude is a Lab\u2013Hound mix, and he\u2019s just such a happy, loving, energetic dog,\u201d said Kimberly White Erlinger with the Austin Animal Center. \u201cHe\u2019s been at the shelter for several months, but you\u2019d never know it\u2014he\u2019s always full of joy. He loves to run, go for walks, and play in our yards. But he\u2019s also done a few sleepovers and absolutely loves to just curl up in bed and watch TV.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a really curious guy\u2014very typical of a Lab\u2013Hound mix. Maybe he knows it\u2019s Halloween, because he\u2019s been especially excited about all the sparkly pumpkins around! He\u2019s such a good dog with great manners\u2014he knows how to sit, he\u2019s house-trained, and he\u2019s incredibly friendly. Honestly, he\u2019s met just about everyone at the station and loved on every single one of them.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s a sweet young dog who\u2019s just kind of languishing in the kennels right now. He has a lot of energy, and sometimes people see that and think he\u2019s too much dog. But really, once he\u2019s out of the kennel, he can calm himself down beautifully. He even entertains himself\u2014he\u2019ll play on his own in the yard and have the best time. <\/p>\n

A backyard where he can run and play for an hour or so a day would be perfect for him. He\u2019s gone on walks around the lake and done wonderfully around other people and dogs. He\u2019s just an all-around terrific companion.\u201d<\/p>\n

And while you\u2019re considering giving Dude a home, don\u2019t forget to check out upcoming Austin Animal Center events, including adoption specials and community pet meetups. It\u2019s a great time to find your new best friend and learn more about fostering opportunities.<\/p>\n

“We\u2019re so excited for D\u00eda de las Mascotas, a free D\u00eda de los Muertos\u2013themed community event coming up a week from this Saturday \u2014 on November 8th!\u201d said Erlinger. \u201cWe\u2019ll have local vendors, a fashion show featuring our adorable shelter pets, and waived adoption fees all day. It\u2019s going to be fun, cute, and totally heartwarming.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThen, to wrap up the evening, we\u2019ll be showing a family-friendly movie on the big lawn in front of the shelter. So come out, find your forever dog or kitty, enjoy some great local vibes, and have a blast with us. It\u2019s going to be such a fun day!\u201d<\/p>\n

The events don’t stop there!<\/p>\n

Thursday, November 13, 2025 – Monday, November 17, 2025 – 7:30 AM to 10:00 AM<\/p>\n

Austin Animal Services and Greater Good Charities are offering FREE high quality, high volume spay and neuter to pets in the City of Austin and Travis County!<\/p>\n

\u201cWe usually hit at least a thousand pets spayed or neutered during these events, so it\u2019s a really big deal,\u201d Erlinger said. \u201cIt\u2019s such an important service for the community and has an incredible ripple effect. So far, we\u2019ve done six or seven of these events \u2014 that\u2019s about six to seven thousand dogs and cats who\u2019ve been spayed or neutered for free. When you think about the number of litters that prevents, it\u2019s just huge \u2014 literally thousands and thousands of animals that won\u2019t end up homeless. It really makes a difference.\u201d<\/p>\n
