{"id":264924,"date":"2026-04-24T21:26:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T21:26:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/264924\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T21:26:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T21:26:08","slug":"txdot-adds-map-for-bluebonnets-other-wildflowers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/264924\/","title":{"rendered":"TxDOT adds map for bluebonnets, other wildflowers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>With springtime comes the age-old Texan question: where are the best, most beautiful bluebonnets?<\/p>\n<p>To answer this query, the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) added a \u201cBlooms Across Texas\u201d layer to its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dot.state.tx.us\/apps\/statewide_mapping\/statewideplanningmap.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Statewide Planning Map<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Texans can now view the best spots for wildflowers, including bluebonnets, Indian paintbrushes, prairie verbena and Indian blankets, with just a click. The map also features the dozen wildflower festivals happening across the state, such as the Red Poppy Festival in Georgetown running Friday through Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Each festival is marked with a bird or insect icon.<\/p>\n<p>Austin, Houston and Dallas appear to be hotspots for Indian paintbrushes and blankets, while prairie verbena cover a decent amount of San Antonio.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kvue.com\/article\/news\/local\/bluebonnets-near-me-now-map\/285-25eb6a2d-a418-4a1a-8699-db911951f52f?tbref=hp\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">KVUE<\/a>, TxDOT\u2019s wildflower information came from the database <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inaturalist.org\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">iNaturalist<\/a>, which allows people all over the world to upload their findings related to flora and fauna.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"With springtime comes the age-old Texan question: where are the best, most beautiful bluebonnets?
