A box truck<\/a> full of snacks and sodas got lifted off a lot on Dallas Parkway at 7:36 a.m., and the company dispatcher watched it move across the map in real time and fed the coordinates straight to Farmers Branch police<\/a>. That\u2019s how a parole absconder from Arizona<\/a> ended up cornered in a residential cul-de-sac an hour later, ramming patrol<\/a> cars<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Per a press release from the Farmers Branch Police Department, officers used<\/a> the live GPS feed to catch up to the truck and tried to pull it over. The driver ran.<\/p>\n

What followed was the part of the morning that turns a property-crime call into an officer-involved shooting investigation: the suspect drove erratically, went the wrong way down at least one road, and eventually funneled himself into the 12300 block of Brittany Circle in Dallas.<\/p>\n

This is where the box truck became a weapon. Police say the driver stopped, threw it in reverse, and hit an occupied patrol unit. Then he put it back in drive and aimed it at officers, striking a second occupied cruiser<\/a>. One officer fired at the truck. The suspect wasn\u2019t hit.<\/p>\n

A few minutes later, he gave himself up and was taken into custody without any further trouble. No officers or civilians were injured anywhere along the route, per the department.<\/p>\n

The man in the driver\u2019s seat is 31-year-old Travis Stone, who according to police is wanted on a full extradition warrant out of the Arizona Department of Corrections for violating parole on an armed robbery conviction.<\/p>\n

Stealing a vending truck is a dumb crime<\/a> on its own; stealing one while you\u2019re already a fugitive with an armed-robbery jacket is the kind of decision that tends to end with a patrol car\u2019s front end caved in.<\/p>\n

Texas<\/a> doesn\u2019t let departments police their own officer-involved shootings in-house. The officer who fired is on routine administrative leave while two parallel reviews<\/a> run: an internal affairs look at whether the shot complied with department policy, and a separate criminal investigation being handled by the Dallas Police Department and the Dallas County District Attorney\u2019s Office.<\/p>\n
