{"id":265043,"date":"2026-04-24T23:02:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T23:02:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/265043\/"},"modified":"2026-04-24T23:02:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T23:02:08","slug":"deans-in-downtown-houston-closing-to-make-way-for-new-concept","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/265043\/","title":{"rendered":"Dean\u2019s in downtown Houston closing to make way for new concept"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Popular Houston bar\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/news\/houston-texas\/trending\/article\/houston-downtown-bar-deans-22221299.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Dean\u2019s Downtown<\/a> will close Sunday after 13 years to make way for a new bar concept.<\/p>\n<p>Bobby Stark, one of those who leased the space\u00a0and opened Dean&#8217;s in 2013, said the bar at 316 Main will close Sunday. The property is owned by Jim Pirtle and Melissa Bosch, and Pirtle&#8217;s children will\u00a0open the new bar <a href=\"https:\/\/www.houstonchronicle.com\/world-cup\/article\/houston-world-cup-22208356.php\" data-link=\"native\" class=\"\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">before the FIFA World cup<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Stark said it was a mutual decision to close, with just two years left on its current lease. He said Dean\u2019s was bought out of the contract even though he had planned to close at the end of the lease anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Stark said he has had mixed emotions since announcing the bar would close.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDean\u2019s has become part of the community,\u201d Stark said. \u201cIt\u2019s almost like it\u2019s not your work, not your home, but it\u2019s another place. It\u2019s always been like that, and we kind of wanted that since day one.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Since opening in 2013, the bar has become known as a Houston nightlife hotspot. From first dates to birthday parties, Stark said he has seen customers share memories of their time there, and he said that was only possible because of the staff.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWithout a doubt, it\u2019s the employees,\u201d Stark said. \u201cNone of those people would\u2019ve felt comfortable if the employees didn\u2019t make them feel comfortable as well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>On its last day, Dean\u2019s will host a throwback party from 8\u00a0p.m. to 11 p.m. featuring early- and mid-2010s music.<\/p>\n<p>Stark said Dean\u2019s will bring back the bar\u2019s 2013 prices during the party. Customers will be able to get drinks for $5 to $7 during that time.<\/p>\n<p>The new bar will keep the same name but will feature a remodel.
