Lake Highlands Women\u2019s League<\/a> volunteers presented college scholarships Friday to 53 graduating seniors \u2014 the most ever in the organization\u2019s 57-year history. The funds were raised at their annual Holiday in the Highlands home tour<\/a>, a neighborhood tradition since 1978.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe had 146 applications, and we interviewed 65 students,\u201d said Scholarship Chairman Alyssa Ramsey, praising the caliber of applicants and their long lists of achievements. \u201cThe students were so impressive and articulate, poised and driven, and we thoroughly enjoyed getting to know them and learn more about their lives.\u201d<\/p>\n

The scholarships were granted in addition to $60,000 given earlier this month to community nonprofits and local schools. The league\u2019s ability to consistently do good work in the community is the result of faithful backing by donors, tour attendees and homeowners.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe LHWL scholarship presentation represents the heart of our mission as a league,\u201d said President Dee Ann Baggett. \u201cIt brings together the time, generosity and dedication of our members to directly support LH seniors. It reflects the powerful impact our volunteers and sponsors make, from hours of service to the funds raised and invested back into our community. Most importantly, it is a celebration of the achievements of these outstanding seniors and our shared commitment to their future success.\u201d<\/p>\n
