TUCSON, Ariz. \u2013\u00a0The University of Houston Softball team fell in its Big 12 weekend series opener, 9-1, against #20 Arizona at Hillenbrand Stadium on Friday.

\nThe Cougars (20-29, 3-19 Big 12) collected six hits on the night led by a pair from junior Makenna Mitchell<\/a>. The Wildcats (32-13, 13-6 Big 12) took the lead early with back-to-back multi-run frames in the first and second, pulling away with four in the fourth to take the run rule win.

\n\tMitchell tallied her 50th\u00a0hit of the season on her 150th\u00a0at bat of the year, lining a single up the middle in the top of the first inning.
\n\tMitchell cranked her 18th\u00a0homer of the season, propelling her to fourth place in single-season home runs in program history.
\n\tMitchell’s pair of hits marked her 17th\u00a0multi-hit outing of the season.
\n\tSophomore Ariel Redmond<\/a> extended her hit streak to four games with a leadoff single in the first. <\/p>\n
