NORMAN, Okla.\u00a0\u2013 The UT Arlington track & field team wrapped up competition at the OU O’Ring Alumni Open on Saturday, April 25, highlighted by a record-breaking performance from Alexis Cain<\/a>. — #BuckEm \u2013<\/p>\n \u00a0

\nCain set a new program record in the women’s outdoor 400 meters, clocking a personal-best time of 52.53. The previous record of 52.79 was set by Tatyana Terrell<\/a> in 2023. Cain surpassed the record by .26 seconds while also securing a first-place finish in the event. She added another victory in the women’s 200 meters with a time of 23.60.

\nCarla Guerrero<\/a> led the way for UTA’s multis competitors, placing fourth in the heptathlon with 4,483 points.

\nOn the men’s side, Jayden Haynes<\/a> led the way with a first-place finish in the 400 meters, recording a personal-best time of 45.99. Devin Payne<\/a> turned in a strong performance as well, placing first in the 400-meter hurdles (53.20) and third in the 110-meter hurdles (15.30). Abisayo Gbakino also claimed a first-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 14.78 meters.

\nAdditional standout performances included Indyia Walton<\/a> earning two silvers in the women’s 100-meter hurdles (14.17) and 400-meter hurdles (1:02.50). Jamon Smith<\/a> secured a second-place finish for the Mavericks in the men’s 800 meters with a season-best time of 1:55.59. Andrei Fuentes<\/a> placed third in the men’s 400-meter hurdles (55.91). Kali Todman<\/a> finished right behind Walton in third in the women’s 400mH (1:04.23). Eli England<\/a> recorded a third-place finish in the men’s 200 meters with a season-best of 21.15.

\nIn the field events, Lucas Cano<\/a> earned a runner-up finish in the men’s discus with a throw of 51.43 meters, while Hayden Wilson<\/a> placed second in the men’s shot put with a season-best mark of 17.32 meters.

\nUTA will travel back to Fort Worth for the second time this season. Next week, the Mavericks are set to compete in the TCU Horned Frog Invite, scheduled for Friday, May 1 through Saturday, May 2.
