{"id":266404,"date":"2026-04-25T23:43:19","date_gmt":"2026-04-25T23:43:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/266404\/"},"modified":"2026-04-25T23:43:19","modified_gmt":"2026-04-25T23:43:19","slug":"el-paso-makes-measurable-progress-at-cement-lake","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/266404\/","title":{"rendered":"El Paso makes \u2018measurable progress\u2019 at Cement Lake"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">EL PASO, Texas (<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ktsm.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:KTSM;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">KTSM<\/a>) \u2014 El Paso Water said it has made \u201cmeasurable progress\u201d in reducing water levels and are resuming stabilization efforts at Cement Lake in West El Paso.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">As of midday on Saturday, April 25, crews have removed more than 9 feet of water from the lake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Crews have have also resumed earthwork to continue to reinforce the southern part of Cement Lake.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\"><a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" class=\"link  yahoo-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/articles\/el-paso-water-pumps-cement-184624385.html\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:El Paso Water pumps out Cement Lake as crews monitor dam stability;itc:0;sec:content-canvas;outcm:mb_qualified_link;_E:mb_qualified_link;ct:story;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> El Paso Water pumps out Cement Lake as crews monitor dam stability <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">As of Saturday morning, they had have 13 pumps installed and additional pumps were expected to arrive later Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Road closures around the lake continue to remain in place.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Officials have previously said they may need to remove up to 10 feet of water to reduce pressure and stabilize the dam.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">If the dam were to fail, roads in the area could be inundated with water. A nearby residential community sits on higher ground and homes are not expected to flood, but access to the neighborhood could be disrupted.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Authorities are urging the public to stay out of closed areas, follow all traffic controls, and remain alert for updates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Copyright 2026 Nexstar Media, Inc.
