At their April 21 meeting<\/a>, Frisco City Council members approved a $388,000 contract with Via Transportation to operate a pilot circulator service in the Rail District.<\/p>\n How it works<\/p>\n The service is designed to improve short-distance mobility within the downtown area, according to city documents<\/a>.<\/p>\n \u201cAs activity continues to increase, connectivity between key destinations, including the Rail District, Frisco Square and surrounding parking areas, has become increasingly important,\u201d according to city documents.<\/p>\n Riders can use the service for free, with the vehicle running every 10 minutes. The transit fleet will include an Americans with Disabilities Act-accessible electric shuttle, with a five-passenger minivan available on reserve for special events.<\/p>\n “><\/p>\n The pilot program will run for 12 months, with an option to extend the service.<\/p>\n The big picture<\/p>\n City officials also recently approved<\/a> a separate agreement with the Denton County Transportation Authority for GoZone microtransit services that will run through at least 2029.<\/p>\n The service would be available to any users, such as Frisco residents and employees, within roughly 21 square miles in Frisco.<\/p>\n “><\/p>\n \u201cThe two services provide both predictable local circulation within the downtown area and broader access into the area from across the city,\u201d city documents state.<\/p>\n Some context<\/p>\n Frisco officials have been looking<\/a> to expand public transportation options ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer.
