Dallas made a move for a hometown playmaker in the team’s first addition following the draft.

NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero reported that the Cowboys have agreed to terms with SMU wideout Jordan Hudson. The playmaker played his freshman season at TCU before transferring to SMU in 2023 where he played his final three years.

“Former SMU WR Jordan Hudson is staying in Dallas and signing with the Cowboys, source said,” Pelissero detailed in an April 25, 2025, message on X.

Here’s what you need to know about the newest Cowboys receiver.

Cowboys WR Jordan Hudson Is Coming Off a Career College Football Season at SMU

Hudson played in 53 games over his four college football seasons. The wideout is coming off a career year at SMU notching 61 receptions for 766 yards and six touchdowns in 11 appearances.

NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein highlighted Hudson’s ability to combine “early elusiveness and plus physicality in run-after-catch.” The analyst gave Hudson a seventh round to priority free agent grade.

“Hudson’s steady production at SMU mirrors what shows up on tape,” Zierlein wrote in his pre-draft profile of Hudson. “He’s built for boundary ‘X’ receiver work, but he wasn’t often tested by quality press or sticky man coverage. He flashes the athleticism to run a more robust route tree. However, his technique needs refinement, and his lack of speed prevents him from separating at an NFL-caliber level.

“He’s above average at tracking and adjusting to 50/50 balls, but he will see a high rate of contested tries. He’s an underrated “add yards” option, as he’s shown he can slither and slam his way into extra yardage. Hudson is a consistent, competitive finisher who needs to prove he can create pro-level throwing windows to settle in as a WR4/5 option.”

The Cowboys Also Agreed to Terms on a UDFA Contract With TCU TE D.J. Rogers: Report

Undrafted free agents like Hudson will be fighting to make the Cowboys final roster, just like a late-round pick. Some undrafted free agents will secure a spot on Dallas’ practice squad with a chance to eventually move up to the team’s active roster.

The Cowboys also signed TCU tight end D.J. Rogers to a lucrative contract offer by UDFA standards, per ESPN’s Todd Archer.

“The Cowboys have an agreement with TCU tight end D.J. Rogers on an undrafted free agent deal that guarantees him $200,000, per source,” Archer detailed in an April 25, message on X.

“Tight end was a position Cowboys were looking to draft but Rogers will have chance to make a spot.”

Cowboys News: Dallas Landed Multiple DFW Prospects on UDFA Contracts

Rogers is also coming off his best college football season. The Horned Frogs tight end posted 34 receptions for 319 yards and two touchdowns in 13 appearances in 2025.

Dallas will be making more moves to sign additional undrafted free agents to compete for a roster spot in training camp. The Cowboys are off to a nice start by keeping several prospects home in the DFW area.

Jonathan Adams is a veteran sports contributor covering the NFL, NBA and golf for Heavy.com.
