The\u00a0Houston Astros<\/a>\u00a0signed the right-handed pitcher in December 2025, then designated him for assignment on Tuesday after he posted a 5.19 ERA over 8 2\/3 innings in seven appearances. The Minnesota Twins claimed Roa off waivers on Thursday and optioned him to Triple-A St. Paul, according to Dan Hayes of\u00a0The Athletic.<\/a>\u00a0<\/p>\n The 27-year-old from Houston played both football and baseball at Memorial High School before enrolling at Texas A&M. Roa pitched for three years with the Aggies, posting a 4.25 ERA over 82 2\/3 innings in 35 appearances, including 15 starts. His junior season was cut short by the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic. The Cincinnati Reds then drafted Roa in the second round of that summer’s MLB Draft.<\/p>\n Roa spent three and a half seasons with the Reds’ organization before he was claimed off waivers by the Miami Marlins in November 2024. He made his MLB debut on Sept. 6, 2025, against the Philadelphia Phillies, and then signed with the Astros on a minor league contract.\u00a0<\/p>\n The Astros’ bullpen has been\u00a0nothing short of a disaster<\/a>\u00a0to\u00a0start the season.<\/a> The Astros’ relievers have posted a 5.75 ERA over 111 2\/3 innings and have allowed 22 home runs so far this season, tying for the second-worst in MLB. Part of that is due to the absence of left-hander Josh Hader, the team’s star closer, who has been battling left biceps tendinitis since before Spring Training.
