{"id":266922,"date":"2026-04-26T10:32:15","date_gmt":"2026-04-26T10:32:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/266922\/"},"modified":"2026-04-26T10:32:15","modified_gmt":"2026-04-26T10:32:15","slug":"texas-ranks-no-1-in-natural-disasters-in-the-u-s-data-shows","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/266922\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas ranks No. 1 in natural disasters in the U.S., data shows"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Oklahoma may be known for its tornadoes\u00a0\u2014 like the one that <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/news\/article\/enid-oklahoma-tornado-damage-videos-aftermath-22224098.php\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:damaged homes around Enid;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">damaged homes around Enid<\/a> on Thursday night \u2014 but Texas has recorded more total natural disasters over the past two decades.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Online experts at <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"http:\/\/playcasino.com\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:PlayCasino;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">PlayCasino<\/a> analyzed federal disaster data from the past 20 years, including records from NOAA\u2019s <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nhc.noaa.gov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:National Hurricane Center;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">National Hurricane Center<\/a>, NOAA\u2019s <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.spc.noaa.gov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Storm Prediction Center;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Storm Prediction Center<\/a> and the <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.usgs.gov\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:U.S. Geological Survey,;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">U.S. Geological Survey,<\/a> to track each recorded hurricane landfall, tornado touchdown and significant earthquake across all 50 states. The data, which spans from 2005 through 2024, reveals a handful of states share far higher risks of natural disasters than the rest \u2014 and Texas carries the largest burden.<\/p>\n<p>Texas is most dangerous state for natural disasters, data shows<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In the span of 20 years, the Lone Star State recorded a whopping 2,724 natural disasters \u2014 well over double the total in Florida. Averaged out, this equates to 136 disasters per year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Four hurricane landfalls occurred in the period: Rita in 2005,\u00a0Ike in 2008, <a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/story\/news\/politics\/state\/2018\/12\/13\/state-report-on-hurricane-harvey-warns-of-changing-climate-without-mentioning-climate-change\/6656889007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Harvey;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Harvey<\/a> in 2017 and\u00a0<a data-yga=\"{\" ylinkelement=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.statesman.com\/story\/weather\/hurricane\/2024\/07\/08\/hurricane-beryl-death-toll-power-outages-houston-texas-flooding\/74327434007\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"elm:link;elmt:article_link;slk:Beryl;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Beryl<\/a> in 2024.
