Thomas Michael Fry, 53, was sentenced to 28 months in federal prison Friday after pleading guilty to possession and sale of a stolen firearm, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas.<\/p>\n
Court records show Fry stole at least three department-issued firearms in June and July 2022 and sold them to a pawn shop in Oklahoma.<\/p>\n
“This police officer violated his oath and the public’s trust when he chose to commit a crime,” U.S. Attorney Ryan Raybould said in a statement. “We will work tirelessly with our law enforcement partners to root out the few bad apples among their ranks.”<\/p>\n
Fry’s case dates back to incidents between June and July 2022, when investigators say he took the weapons from a Dallas Police Department substation and pawned them across state lines.<\/p>\n
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Dallas Police Department led the investigation and said the case underscores the broader issue of accountability within law enforcement.<\/p>\n
“This case strikes at the core of public trust,” ATF Dallas Special Agent in Charge Brian Garner said. “The very individuals entrusted to safeguard our communities must be held to the highest standard.”<\/p>\n
