Between its barbecue and Lone Star State snacks, it’s about the closest taste of a Texas-fied classic corner store that the city has to offer.

“You walk in and you already feel like you’re going back in time,” Bobby Rojas, front of house manager, told Chron. “We have a nice playlist where it’s old classic country, old Delta blues songs, and it just really sets the atmosphere for a nice, calm speakeasy as opposed to that quick rush, eat your food, onto the next kind kind of barbecue atmosphere.”

That slower-paced energy is also the secret ingredient in Henderson & Kane’s kitchen. Despite the quick delivery of dine-in and carry-out service, many meats have already undergone hours of prep in the pit before ever hitting a plate—like the restaurant’s signature brisket, which undergoes a 12- to 16-hour smoke process and is offered in lean, moist and chopped cuts. Beyond its brisket, the restaurant also serves savory smoked chicken, turkey, sausage, boudin, pulled pork and ribs, along with housemade, vegetarian-friendly sides like potato salad, green chile cream corn, gooey mac and cheese, and fresh coleslaw. Plus, there are tacos, sandwiches, burgers and steaks available too.

And that’s just the restaurant menu. Aside from its farm-to-table-style barbecue bites, Henderson & Kane is stocked with snacks, sauces and other pantry staples, along with wine, art, florals, T-shirts and other products— most of which are made in Texas.

With a lineup of barbecue and baked goods with locally sourced ingredients in a space shelved with a majority of Lone Star snacks, the restaurant (which also has a coffee bar) has solidified itself as the ultimate neighborhood one-stop-shop for convenience, character and classic Central Texas ‘cue.

[7
1703,1704,56,58,57
0":"post-268133","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-houston","8":"tag-chronfood","9":"tag-chronstaff","10":"tag-houston","11":"tag-houston-headlines","12":"tag-houston-news
["GET
