CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Corpus Christi Mayor Paulette Guajardo has added five members of the City Council in an ongoing lawsuit to stop the removal process from suspending her from office.<\/p>\n
In a court filing submitted on April 23, Guajardo has now added the council members calling for her removal listed on the document as:<\/p>\n
Carolyn Vaughn, Gil Hernandez, Sylvia Campos, Kaylynn Paxson and Eric Cantu. \u00a0Collectively, Guajardo refers to the group of councilmembers as the “Fab Five.”<\/p>\n
Guajardo argues the removal process underway violates the city charter and her constitutional rights. Guajardo is seeking a temporary restraining order to block any suspension pending review of the case.<\/p>\n
The legal fight comes as the City Council continues to move forward with removal proceedings that began on April 14, under a formal resolution and ordinance.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Guajardo\u2019s filing challenges the council\u2019s actions and argues that the process should be stopped immediately until proper legal procedures are followed.<\/p>\n
The case is now before a federal court, which will decide whether to intervene while the city\u2019s removal process continues.<\/p>\n
