A pair of former San Francisco 49ers<\/a> are headed to the NFC East to join the Dallas Cowboys<\/a>.<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Monday reported wide receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling<\/a> and linebacker Curtis Robinson<\/a> are both set to land with the Cowboys<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Valdes-Scantling signed with San Francisco<\/a> just before the 2025 regular season began after spending most of the offseason with the Seattle Seahawks<\/a>. He played five games for the 49ers and caught four passes for 40 yards. He was eventually released, and he signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers<\/a> before hitting the free agent market this offseason.<\/p>\n

It’s a bit of a surprise that Robinson left San Francisco, although the writing was on the wall when the team re-signed Luke Gifford<\/a> who effectively fills the role Robinson did. The 49ers also used a fifth-round pick on linebacker Jaden Dugger and re-signed LB Dre Greenlaw<\/a> this offseason. Even after trading LB Dee Winters<\/a> there weren’t a ton of roster spots available for Robinson, who landed with the 49ers in 2021 and played in 26 games with them across the last five seasons.<\/p>\n

In 2025 Robinson was thrust into a starting role after linebackers Fred Warner<\/a> and Tatum Bethune<\/a> went down with injuries. Robinson struggled in an expanded defensive role and now the 49ers are moving on from a player who played 194 special teams snaps for them last season and 380 in total across his 26 games in San Francisco.<\/p>\n
