LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – A Lubbock woman is honoring her sister by bringing awareness to a disease more than 13,000 women across the country are expected to be diagnosed with this year.<\/p>\n
Amy Fulton said her sister Ashley Doyle was a CNA who was going to school for nursing. The two sisters were attached at the hip growing up in Lubbock.<\/p>\n
Fulton said Doyle went in for a doctor\u2019s appointment in April 2024 to see if she could have another child. Doctors discovered something abnormal and ran tests.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen we got those results, that\u2019s when we found out that it was cervical cancer,\u201d Fulton said.<\/p>\n
At that time, the cancer had reached stage two. Doyle underwent a hysterectomy in August and sought out chemotherapy treatment. A few months later, it was discovered the treatments were ineffective because the cancer had spread to the rest of her body.<\/p>\n
Ashley Doyle died surrounded by loved ones on July 6, 2025.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe fought hard. We were there with her throughout the whole time, but her body couldn\u2019t take it anymore,\u201d Fulton said. \u201cMy sister means the world to me, and losing her was the worst. Knowing something that was preventable hurts the most.\u201d<\/p>\n
Fulton wants to get the community together and raise awareness, honoring lives lost and supporting survivors in the fight to end cervical cancer.<\/p>\n
She partnered with national nonprofit Cervivor to host the Pap Rally and Run on Saturday, May 9. The run will feature a tribute to Ashley, along with educational opportunities about the importance of early detection, HPV vaccine information and regular Pap tests provided by Cervivor.<\/p>\n
All proceeds will go to Cervivor in the hopes of bringing cervical cancer prevention resources and educational opportunities to more people across the country.<\/p>\n
\u201cWhen she got sick, she wanted to let the world know what she went through because she wanted to save as many people as she could,\u201d Fulton said.<\/p>\n
