{"id":269835,"date":"2026-04-28T14:43:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-28T14:43:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/269835\/"},"modified":"2026-04-28T14:43:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-28T14:43:08","slug":"major-loop-1604-ramp-to-permanently-close-in-san-antonio-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/269835\/","title":{"rendered":"Major Loop 1604 ramp to permanently close in San Antonio"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>For years, getting to that mall along westbound<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local\/traffic\/article\/loop-1604-construction-19406396.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\"> Loop 1604<\/a> has been pretty simple \u2013 there\u2019s been an exit to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/business\/article\/la-cantera-san-antonio-closures-21276999.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">La Cantera Parkway<\/a> that takes drivers directly to the road that connects the mall to The RIM. That exit will cease to exist on May 1.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis permanent closure is expected to begin Friday, May 1, 2026, weather permitting,\u201d the Texas Department of Transportation warns.<\/p>\n<p>Now, folks no westbound Loop 1604 hoping to get to the shops will need to exit before the I-10 intersection with\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mysanantonio.com\/news\/local\/traffic\/article\/loop-1604-construction-19406396.php\" data-link=\"native\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"\">Loop 1604.<\/a> They\u2019ll then need to take the access road under the stacked highways, through two lights and continue until they reach La Cantera Parkway, says TxDOT.<\/p>\n<p>Drivers can also exit Vance Jackson Road and travel through The Rim to get to La Cantera, but that may not be much of a time saver.<\/p>\n<p>This closure is permanent and all part of a massive $1.4 billion project transforming the largest state highway loop in Texas. The main lanes of Loop 1604 will be expanded to 10 lanes from Bandera Road all the way to I-35.
