If you think about it, there’s really no reason Lubbock should matter this much to music.<\/p>\n
It\u2019s flat, it\u2019s isolated, and depending on the day, it\u2019s either dead quiet or being sandblasted by the wind. It\u2019s not Nashville. It\u2019s not Los Angeles. No one grows up here thinking, this is where the sound of the future is coming from.<\/p>\n
And yet, it kind of is.<\/p>\n
It all started with Buddy Holly, of course.<\/p>\n
Before him, rock and roll was still figuring itself out. After him, it had structure. Melody. Identity. He wasn\u2019t just another early rock artist\u2014he helped define what a band even looked like: two guitars, bass, drums. Clean, catchy, emotional, a little nerdy. That blueprint spread everywhere, influencing bands like The Beatles, who openly credited Holly as a major inspiration.<\/p>\n
So, yes. Lubbock accidentally helped shape modern music.<\/p>\n
But here’s the weird part: it didn’t stop there.<\/p>\n
Lubbock has this habit of producing artists who don\u2019t quite fit anywhere else. Not polished enough for mainstream pop. Not traditional enough for straight country. Not loud enough for big-city scenes. But that\u2019s exactly why they work.<\/p>\n
Lubbock doesn\u2019t have a defined sound\u2014it has a lack of pressure.<\/p>\n
In bigger cities, music scenes can feel like ecosystems with rules. You network, you brand yourself, you chase a sound that\u2019s already working. In Lubbock, you\u2019re kind of left alone. There\u2019s space, literally and creatively. You\u2019re not surrounded by industry expectations. You\u2019re surrounded by silence. Long drives.\u00a0Family who may not be totally supportive of you and your dreams.<\/p>\n
That kind of isolation does something to people. I really believe that.<\/p>\n
