I\u2019m not on the ballot this time around\u2014but that doesn\u2019t mean I don\u2019t have a game plan.<\/p>\n

Right now, Lubbock\u2019s<\/a> looking at a\u00a0four-person race that feels like a choice between \u201cmore of the same\u201d and \u201cdreams too big for this town.\u201d If history tells us anything, this city leans toward steady hands over big swings. That\u2019s fine\u2014but if it were up to me, I\u2019d push for a little more balance between responsibility and vision.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udcb0 Run It Like a Household<\/p>\n

First off, I\u2019d treat the city budget like a household budget. You pay your bills first\u2014no excuses. But every now and then, you spend a little on things that actually make life enjoyable. That\u2019s not reckless\u2014that\u2019s living. And if we want to stay the \u201cHub City,\u201d we\u2019ve got to invest in both function and quality of life.<\/p>\n

\ud83d\udc3e My Core Focus: Pets, Police, and Potholes<\/p>\n

If I had to boil it down, my priorities would be simple:<\/p>\n

Pets \u2013 I\u2019d make sure Lubbock Animal Services has everything they need to truly get ahead of the pet population issue. They\u2019re doing solid work now\u2014but with a little more funding and support, we could start emptying shelters instead of just managing them.<\/p>\n

Police (and Fire) \u2013 When I say \u201cpolice,\u201d I mean all first responders. These departments should never be stretched thin. Ever. I\u2019d make it a priority to keep them staffed, equipped, and supported so they can do their jobs safely and effectively.<\/p>\n

Potholes \u2013 It\u2019s not glamorous, but it matters. There\u2019s a lot of roadwork that needs attention, and I\u2019d stay on it. Infrastructure is one of those things people notice immediately when it’s ignored.<\/p>\n

\ud83c\udfca And One \u201cSplurge\u201d: Pools<\/p>\n

Now here\u2019s where I\u2019d spend a little extra.<\/p>\n

I\u2019d build a large, central community pool. Not a flashy waterpark\u2014just a clean, well-maintained place where kids and adults can cool off, relax, and enjoy themselves. Something simple that brings people together.<\/p>\n

Yes, it would cost money upfront. Yes, it would need upkeep. But with reasonable usage fees and smart management, it could sustain itself over time\u2014and more importantly, it would give this city something fun and positive to rally around.<\/p>\n

That\u2019s my approach: take care of the essentials, invest in the people, and don\u2019t forget to make life a little better along the way.<\/p>\n

Nessman for mayor\u2026 or not. But that\u2019s exactly what I\u2019d do.<\/p>\n
